Oil Change FAQs

Given that we handle a lot of oil changes for our customers in Fountain Valley and the surrounding areas, we wanted to take some time to answer some of the top questions that we get:

Q: How often should you change your oil?

A: According to research by Edmunds, most carmakers now recommend oil changes between 7,500 and 10,000 miles, although some specify 5,000-mile intervals. The type of engine oil, the age and make of your vehicle and driving habits dictate when to change engine oil. The best thing to do is reach out to Enjoying Mechanics to get our expert opinion!

Q: What happens if you don’t change your oil?

A: Not changing your oil in a timely manner can result in your warranty being voided, poor engine performance, and in extreme cases, engine failure. It goes without saying, not changing your oil is going to cost you a lot more money in the long run.

Q: How do I check my oil level?

A: To check your oil, open the engine hood and locate the oil dipstick. Once located, pull the dipstick out, wipe it clean (using a rag, towel, paper towel, etc.), dip the stick back in, pull it out again and measure how far the oil comes up. *Note: You will see a recommended oil level on the end of the dipstick.

Q: What color oil is bad?

A: Engine oil color can vary based on a lot of different factors. It is important to monitor engine oil over time to start to understand how the color changes. Given the complexities here, we recommended leaving this to the experts. As long as you make sure to bring your car in at the recommended intervals, you shouldn’t have to quite as much.

Q: Will my car run better after an oil change?

A: Getting an oil change regularly will both help increase gas mileage and efficiency, while also preventing your engine’s parts from wearing down.

Q: What is included in an oil change?

A: At Enjoying Mechanics, we take pride in offering a comprehensive service when you bring your car in for an oil change. Aside from changing the oil and oil filter, we also rotate your tires, check your fluids and check your brakes.

If you have any further questions regarding engine oil or would like to bring your car in to get an oil change at Enjoying Mechanics, don’t hesitate to call 714-540-7071.
